Closed on Monday, July 5th

And not to get too much ahead of ourselves, we are still open Saturday 7:30 am til 2 pm.

Closing on Monday is the final decision! It was really tough to decide as to whether or not to be open, but with the weather forecast predicting 90 degrees and pure sunshine, it swayed my decision from opening to closing. Me thinks it will be a day for fun in the sun, the pool, being with family and friends, etc. and not for coffee. So, hopefully everyone enjoys the long weekend! We will be back at it on Tuesday bright and early at 6 a.m. See you then!

The best day of July (so far)

Well, considering it is only the first day of July, I guess there is not a whole lot to compare it to, but wow! what a great day. Thanks to all of our lovely customers who helped to make it outstanding. I was uncertain of what to expect today, especially with the holiday weekend approaching quickly. It turns out that everyone was out and about enjoying the beautiful, low-humidity day we had, grabbing some lunch and coffee along their way.

Two things- Macaroons are back in action and are ready for consumption. We have a Kona coffee that is blended with Guatemalan brewing as the mild, which is quite nice and noteworthy.

An Allegheny county health inspector came by today (totally unannounced) and we’re very happy (but not surprised) to say we passed 100%. All of our procedures are spot on, effective, and completely up to the highest standards.

See you tomorrow!

a Thank You

Just a quick THANKS! to the kind person that put our sidewalk sign by the shop’s door and kept it out of harm’s way. We know that we haven’t had the best of luck with the sidewalk sign vs. Freeport Rd. traffic.

Andrew forgot to put it inside when he closed up on Saturday! That’s forgivable though, he’s still a keeper.

Two funny things

Last week one of my very coolest customers asked if our Nicaraguan “Building New Hope” coffee was from New Hope, Pennsylvania!  We all cracked up, and then quickly commented that any coffee grown in Pennsylvania would be EXTRA shade grown.  http://www.buildingnewhope.org/coffee.html

Next, a lady asked how many pumps of cappuccino go into her cappuccino….. the only two ingredients in a cappuccino are espresso and milk. No pumps involved!

Kristo and I made a really cool batch of homemade syrup to be added to drinks tomorrow and maybe even throughout the week. You’ll have to come in and give it a try. It’s safe to say that you’ll love it. After the batch of syrup was completed we hurried down the shop to whip up a round of drinks to try it out. We think we prefer the syrup added to an iced latte; our taste buds picked up a little bit more zip in the iced drink compared to the hot version. This syrup is perfect for summer, subtle and refreshing.

See you tomorrow @ 6 a.m.

ps- I am going to have a really nice German bread tomorrow that is so richly colored it is nearly black. It is hearty, whole-grain, and will likely become the home to some turkey breast, cheddar, and a nice mustard.

Summer Solstice

Today is the longest day of the year! It’s all downhill from here folks; the days will continue to get shorter from now until December.

On a lighter note, many thanks to all of our great customers who made today a great day. Mondays vary so much and I’m happy to report that today was a definite HIT. Andrew made a batch of our Lemon Basil chicken salad first thing this morning which was the seller of the day. Tomorrow, we have a brand new recipe lined up- Asian inspired cashew chicken salad.

I think for tomorrow the four coffee selections are: Burgh Blend as the dark roast, Ethiopian Yirgacheffe as the light roast, Golden Pecan as the flavor, and Sumatra as the decaf. Try a Sugar Daddy latte sometime soon- it is caramel and hazelnut and is absolutely delicious hot or iced. Anytime you may want to try something new, just ask any of us behind the counter and we will guide you towards new flavor combinations for lattes and mochas that won’t disappoint!

I hope you enjoyed the longest day of the year!

Holy Guacamole!

We made an awesome sandwich today that was turkey, colby cheese, a thick slice of tomato, cilantro, and homemade guac on soft wheat bread. Needless to say, it was the first sandwich option to sell out. Our mayo-less tuna recipe has been a huge hit as well. It has flavorful ingredients in it: roma tomatoes, cannellini beans, basil, parmesan cheese, spinach, and a really light vinaigrette.

In other words, in turned out to be a really nice day. Great weather is always great for business. It was very warm in the afternoon and I enjoyed a workout at the track in full sunshine.

See you tomorrow morning to get your day started off the right way!

Coconut Mocha

..was the seller of the day today! It seemed as if everyone put off coming into the shop yesterday and waited until today. It worked out great- we were hopping at Curbside all day long! The first sandwich to sell out was the ham off the bone on rye with dill pickles and horseradish cheddar. Next to go was the turkey with colby and provolone on soft texas toast with chive cream cheese. Turkey BLT sold out after that, and the Caprese sandwich was on it’s way out next.

We made a new kind of salad today which came out beautifully! It is a corn and bean salad with lots of grape tomatoes, cilantro, and dressed with a creamy lime sauce. It is perfect for summer. We even chopped up a fresh jalapeno pepper for some zip. It really wasn’t spicy at all though?

Lined up for tomorrow is everyone’s favorite Tanzania Peaberry. It will be brewing as the mild coffee. The Java Taman Dadar was delicious! We’ll have to get it back on tap soon.

The best egg salad in Blawnox

…and that’s no yolk!

I just got done hard-boiling and  peeling 36 eggs. With some love and attention in the morning to complete the egg salad, we should have a big enough batch for about 15 sandwiches.

A good day

A good day was had by all at Curbside Coffeehouse today. We got a lot accomplished and didn’t let the all day rain get in our way! Though, our outside seating didn’t get a whole lot of use today…

I meant to report from last Saturday that I still don’t really like the Indian Monsooned Malabar bean. Also on Saturday I ran a nice trail run 5k race, 21:43.

Tomorrow I have a luncheon delivery order going to Bennett Supply. They will be enjoying a nice assortment of sandwiches, and some biscotti for dessert! Now is a good time to plug Mary Kay Fiore, owner of La Peri Dolci, who makes Pittsburgh’s best biscotti, hands down. Enrico in the strip is totally overrated! Everyday I start off with a triple chocolate biscotti and a steaming cup of Curbside coffee.

Hope everyone else had a great day too!
